Effective 5 September 2026
Clipbeam sends the text you choose to share between your own devices through a relay server. Before anything leaves your device it is encrypted with AES-GCM using a key derived from a pairing secret that exists only on your devices. The relay receives and stores encrypted blobs only. It cannot read them, and neither can I.
For each pairing the relay keeps at most the last ten encrypted items and deletes anything older than thirty days. The pairing is identified by a random value derived from your secret; it is not tied to your name, Apple ID, phone number or email. Standard web server logs record IP addresses and request times for a short period for abuse prevention.
The pairing secret is kept in the iOS Keychain. Settings such as the device name and relay address are stored on the device. Clipbeam has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs.
Clipbeam reads the clipboard only when you ask it to send, or when you open the app with the “send clipboard when I open the app” setting on. iOS shows you when that happens. Nothing is read in the background.
You can run the relay yourself. The server source is published with the Linux client. If you do, this policy applies only to the app; your server is yours.
